Alo-Hasan clinch Bangabandhu Centenary Special pair Bridge Championship

The pair won on the east-west side among 44 pairs while veteran bridge players Mohammad Khayer and Abdul Latif pair stood first in the north-side portion

Mohammad Alauddin Alo and Hasan al Banna became the champions of the Bangabandhu Centenary Special Pair Bridge on Saturday.

Alo and Hasan, former students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, have been known as promising young players in the circuit and they fulfilled their talent in the tournament that was held to commemorate the birth centenary of the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The pair won in the east-west side among 44 pairs while veteran bridge players Mohammad Khayer and Abdul Latif pair stood first in the north-side portion.
Bangladesh qualified for the last two World Cup events of Bridge through hectic qualifying sessions in the Asia region and in major recognized sports, Bangladesh has played in the World Cup event only in cricket and bridge, according to Bangladesh Bridge Federation who organized the day-long tournament on Saturday at a city hotel.

“Bridge is a worldwide recognized game but in our society card games face taboo and criticism as means of punting. But Bridge is different and I hope the game will spread throughout the country to find talented players who will bring glory on a global level,” Nationals Sports Council secretary Masud Karim said during the prize ceremony as the chief guest in a capital hotel.

Dhaka Tribune’s sports journalist Syed Faiz Ahmed and his partner Avijit Ghosh secured the third spot.
