Desperate bowling session of Bangladesh

Two Sri Lankan openers got off to a great start in the first innings of the second Test. After Bangladesh was bowled out for 365 in the first innings, Sri Lanka reached the century in the opening over. At the end of 22 overs, the Lankans went to the tea break with 64 runs without wickets.

Oshawa Fernando took the fifth fifty season by batting fast. Batting for 52 runs. Captain Dimuth Koranaratne is at the crease with 31 runs. The visitors trailed by 271 runs.

Oshawa Fernando could have gone back in the first over. Though the umpire raised his finger thinking that Khaled Ahmed’s ball hit the bat, the Sri Lankan batsman took a review. The review shows that the ball has landed on the pad and is deposited in the keeper’s gloves.

In 14.4 overs, Taizul’s ball was called for leg before. Batter Oshada again. The umpire did not give out though. The Bangladesh review showed that the Sri Lankan opener survived the umpires’ call even though the ball hit the stumps.

Shakib wasted the golden opportunity in the 16th over. Oshawa caught him back. But Shakib could not collect it by hand.

Bangladesh, who had won the toss earlier, were bowled out for 365 in the first innings. Like yesterday, today’s first session was also attacked by Lankan pace bowling. Moreover, the Liton-Mushfiqur duo has suffered the Lankans the whole time. In the first session of the second day, the innings of Bangladesh did not go far after the return of Liton Das. After playing a few overs in the second session, the hosts’ innings were reduced to 116.2 overs.

Sri Lanka can say the morning of the second day in Mirpur. He bowled 28 overs and scored 74 runs. He took 4 wickets in return and made the first innings of Bangladesh come to an end before lunch. Liton, who scored 141 off 246 balls, was returned by Kasun Rajitha. After breaking the record of 282 runs, the resistance of the hosts did not last long.

However, Mushfiqur Rahim did not allow the Lankans to get complete relief. Playing in an unbeaten 181-run innings was an obstacle for a long time. After the break, he started to score runs but his partner Ebadat could not survive. Bangladesh got all out after being run out in a hurry to take a quick run. Mushfiqur Rahim, however, remained unbeaten in a perfect Test inning of 175 off 355 balls.

The best bowlers of the Lankans were two pacers Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando. Rajitha took the best 5 wickets of her career for 64 runs. Asitha took 4 for 93. Veteran Jayabikrama bowled 36 overs but did not get any wickets.
